I am the Past You are the Future

Brock Lesnar tore the canvas off the ring, exposed the bare wooden boards underneath, and tombstoned Oba Femi onto them.

Femi kicked out at two.

That happened inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam 2026, in Lesnar's home state, in a match he asked for himself. Minutes later he lost, pulled the man who beat him into a hug, and took a microphone he had barely touched in twenty four years. "Here's the future of WWE. Congratulations. This is the past. This is the future."

Three days later he confirmed he was retired. Nobody had advertised it. There was no farewell match and no send off.

Everybody called it generous. It was not.

Wrestling runs on one rule nobody writes down: you do not simply leave, you leave somebody behind who is bigger than you found them. Andre the Giant paid it in 1987, letting Hulk Hogan slam him and giving up the only thing he had left. The Undertaker paid it in 2014, and the man he paid it to was Brock Lesnar. In 2026 the bill came back around.

The hug did not make Oba Femi. Surviving the worst thing Brock Lesnar had left is what made Oba Femi.

Nobody in this business gets to leave clean. You settle up on the way out.
