Giulia's fall on the October 2 SmackDown was a planned part of the show and not a legitimate injury, according to Fightful Select's Corey Brennan. WWE footage of Giulia backstage after the match points the same way.
The moment came at the finish of Blake Monroe's main roster in-ring debut. Fightful reported that Giulia attempted a superplex from the top rope, Monroe struck her legs, and Giulia fell face-first onto the ring post. WWE.com's results say Monroe pinned Giulia after sending her face-first into the post. Giulia landed in the ring and did not answer the count.
The match was Monroe's first since an April 21 NXT appearance. Fightful noted that she was called up to the main roster in April and had two previously scheduled matches that never officially began, which is why the outlet described the SmackDown match as her long-awaited main roster in-ring debut.
Giulia was helped to the back after the match, which raised questions about whether she had been hurt. Wrestling Attitude then reported that newly released WWE footage showed her retaliating backstage by hitting Monroe with a stiff headbutt. The outlet wrote that the footage strongly indicates her slow exit from ringside was part of an ongoing storyline angle rather than a legitimate injury.
That lines up with Brennan's reporting. He said both the finish and the backstage help for Giulia were in the show rundown, and that no audible was called.
It is not yet known when Giulia and Monroe will meet again or what the feud will build toward. WWE has not announced a rematch.
For now, the SmackDown fall is a storyline spot, and the feud between Giulia and Monroe is continuing.
