NXT wrestler Mason Rook will be out of action for the "foreseeable future," according to WrestlingInc, after he was pulled from a scheduled NXT Championship match against Grayson Waller on the September 29 episode of NXT. No diagnosis has been disclosed.
NXT General Manager Robert Stone posted the update, which WrestlingInc said came after Stone spoke with WWE doctors by phone. The news followed an earlier announcement from WWE announcer Emily Agard, who said in a video posted to the NXT account on X that "Mason Rook is not medically cleared to compete tonight. However Grayson Waller will still defend the NXT Championship tonight." WrestlingInc reported the video went up at about 5 p.m. Eastern, ahead of that night's show.
Rook had been set to challenge Waller for the title. WrestlingInc reported that WWE did not immediately name a replacement opponent for the champion and directed fans to its social media channels for updates.
Rook's most recent recorded match came on September 19 at a live event in Fort Pierce, Florida, where WrestlingInc said his team lost a six-man tag team match. Neither Stone's statement nor the earlier announcement described an injury or the circumstances behind the medical decision.
Several points are not yet known. WWE has not said what Rook is dealing with or how long he is expected to be out. The company has also not announced whether he will receive another opportunity at the NXT Championship once he returns.
For now, Rook remains out of NXT action with no diagnosis and no return date announced.
