Paul Wight, known as Big Show, says imitation is the best form of flattery after Omos recreated one of his signature spots on Rey Mysterio at Triplemania 34. Wight made the comments during a virtual signing with Signed By Superstars on Oct. 4, Ringside News reported.
At Night One of Triplemania 34, Omos defeated Rey Mysterio in a match where a win meant Omos would be reinstated to the AAA roster, Fox News reported. Mysterio hit multiple 619s, a West Coast Pop and a top rope splash before Omos chokeslammed him and pinned him. Dominik Mysterio, Rey's son, also took out El Grande Americano during the match.
After the bell, with officials loading Mysterio onto a backboard for a stretcher, Omos picked him up while he was strapped in and slammed him through the announce table, according to Fox News. Ringside News wrote that the moment mirrored a famous spot from Wight's WWE rivalry with Mysterio that involved a backboard, and that Wight was asked about it at the signing.
Wight said: "I already saw it when they tried to copy it. They had somebody else do my spot. So I was like, 'Ehh,' you know? What is it? Imitation is the best form of flattery or whatever."
Ringside News wrote that Wight kept a lighthearted tone and appeared to take the recreation as a compliment, not as a problem. Fox News reported that the crowd booed Omos and Dominik Mysterio heavily as they walked to the back.
Wight did not say more about the spot beyond the remarks reported. For now, Omos is back on the AAA roster after the win, and Wight's reaction is the one quoted above.
