Today is Thursday, May 21. Two live hits in two nights are up next, with SmackDown at WWE Arena on Friday and Saturday Night's Main Event in Fort Wayne setting the weekend cadence. With that said, here is all the pro wrestling news you need to know for today.
AEW’s Wednesday slate (May 20) delivered a clear board: Darby Allin beat “Speedball” Mike Bailey to keep the AEW World Championship, Willow Nightingale relinquished the TBS Championship, and Kyle O’Reilly earned an AEW Continental Championship match with Jon Moxley at Double or Nothing. Earlier this week on Raw (May 18), Brock Lesnar resurfaced to answer Oba Femi’s open challenge and Finn Bálor outlasted JD McDonagh in a Street Fight. Tuesday’s NXT (May 19) saw Kam Hendrix and Mason Rook defeat Tony D’Angelo and Myles Borne, while Tatum Paxley retained over Lizzy Rain.
Raw on May 18 produced a pair of anchors: Brock Lesnar returned and delivered an F-5 to Oba Femi after answering his open challenge, and Finn Bálor defeated JD McDonagh in a Street Fight. Seth Rollins beat Austin Theory despite Logan Paul’s interference. Paige and Brie Bella retained the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez. Jacob Fatu then challenged Roman Reigns to Tribal Combat for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Tuesday’s NXT (May 19) put newcomers on the board, with Kam Hendrix and Mason Rook defeating Tony D’Angelo and Myles Borne. Tatum Paxley kept the NXT Women’s North American Championship by beating Lizzy Rain. Ricky Smokes and Brad Baylor retained the NXT Tag Team Championship over Dion Lennox and Saquon Shugars, and DarkState expelled Shugars afterward. Tristan Angels won his debut against Romeo Moreno as Shiloh Hill appeared in the stands wearing Mr. NXT attire.
On May 20, Darby Allin defeated “Speedball” Mike Bailey to retain the AEW World Championship. Kyle O’Reilly went 20 minutes with Jon Moxley to a draw and earned an AEW Continental Championship match at Double or Nothing with no time limit. Willow Nightingale announced a shoulder injury, relinquishing the TBS Championship and withdrawing from the Owen Cup. FTR retained the AEW World Tag Team Championship against The Conglomeration, and Will Ospreay defeated Katsuyori Shibata. Ricochet, Andrade El Ídolo and Mark Davis beat Chris Jericho, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson, and RUSH called out Allin for an AEW World Championship match next week.
Saturday’s AAA broadcast on May 16 saw Mr. Iguana and La Parka win a Fatal 4-Way tag over NGD, Tokyo Bad Boys and Money Machine. Galeno del Mal defeated Chris Carter and Drago in a 2-on-1 handicap match. The Creed Brothers beat Aerostar and El Fiscal, followed by a brawl that involved El Grande Americano, Original El Grande Americano and Los Americanos.
AEW holds the center this week, with Darby Allin still champion and Kyle O’Reilly slotted for a no time limit shot at Jon Moxley at Double or Nothing. Willow Nightingale vacating the TBS Championship reshapes the women’s picture ahead of the Owen Cup, while RUSH calling out Allin suggests another title defense is imminent. In NXT, Kam Hendrix and Mason Rook already own a win over Tony D’Angelo and Myles Borne, the kind of result that tends to get a rematch window soon.
Will RUSH's callout of Darby Allin lead to an AEW World title match next week, or is it just a tease for Double or Nothing?
Friday’s SmackDown at WWE Arena is the final TV stop before the weekend showcase, with Raw’s angles setting the tone for who steps forward next.
Saturday Night’s Main Event on May 23 in Fort Wayne is the weekend platform for WWE to advance its top programs between live TV hits.
