AEW has held talks with Kairi Sane, but no deal is in place, according to Fightful Select. AEW President Tony Khan said after WrestleDream that he is "very intrigued" by the possibility of signing the former WWE star.
WWE released Sane in April 2026, following WrestleMania 42, and she has been unsigned since. Sane is a former World of STARDOM Champion and a former IWGP Women's Champion in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, so her free agency has drawn interest from more than one country.
Speaking to media after WrestleDream, Khan said, "I am very aware and excited to see that she's a free agent." He added, "I'm very intrigued by the possibility of that," and called Sane "a fantastic wrestler." Khan did not confirm that negotiations are underway, WrestlingInc reported.
Fightful Select reported that "light" conversations between AEW officials and Sane continued over the weekend. Cultaholic, citing Fightful, wrote that multiple promotions, including international companies, have expressed interest in her. Fightful's sources also said her Japanese destination would not be Marigold, the company run by Rossy Ogawa. Fightful had earlier reported that Sane was never part of AEW's plans for All In at Wembley on August 30, despite fan speculation that she might debut there.
WrestlingInc noted that Sane is booked as a special guest on Chris Jericho's Rock N Wrestling Rager At Sea cruise, where she will meet wrestlers from around the world. She did not wrestle at WrestleDream.
No contract, debut date or timeline has been announced, and it is not known which promotion she will choose. As of now, Sane remains a free agent, with AEW and others in discussions.
