Sheamus officially became a free agent on October 2, one day after his WWE contract expired, and he marked the moment with a short post on social media. Fightful reported that he wrote "all challengers welcome" and signed it with his real name, Stephen Farrelly.

Sheamus spent roughly 20 years with WWE, from 2006 to 2026. Over that time he won the WWE Championship, the United States Championship and tag team titles, according to Fightful. His final match for the company came on the October 17, 2025 edition of Monday Night Raw, where he teamed with John Cena and Rey Mysterio against The Judgment Day. That leaves close to a year between his last match and the end of his contract.

The post was accompanied by ring photos, 411Mania reported, and the outlet read it as a sign that he is open to facing any challenger. The wording does not name a promotion and does not say what comes next for him.

On the question of where he could land, Fightful Select reported that AEW is expected to have interest in Sheamus. The report did not say that any talks have taken place between Sheamus and AEW, and it did not mention any other company making contact. Interest that is expected is not a negotiation, and nothing in the reporting says one has begun.

Several points are not yet known. Neither Sheamus nor any promotion has announced where he will wrestle next, whether conversations have started, or when he might appear on television again. No signing with AEW or any other company has been reported.

As of October 3, Sheamus is a free agent with no announced next move, and the only statement from him is the single post signed with his real name.
